First pair of Lunas and I was worried these straps would give me blisters. Turns out what I have to worry about is transitioning to running without shoes: my calves killed after my first run! Now I'm trying to ease in very slowly, a mile a day for a while. I also didn't realize that the Vibram sole is a soft, pliable one. I would have chosen a more traditional 'hard' Vibram sole if I could have, primarily thinking it would last longer.
I LOVE my Lunas. After dealing with some initial blisters from the straps, my sensitive feet seem to have adjusted well and the ride is amazing. I used to run in Five-fingers but require a little more protection (and squish) these days -- the Mono Gordos seem to be perfect for my 4-7 mile mixed trail/road runs. I struggle with bunions and hate tight toe boxes, they always seem to press in the wrong place or just squeeze my toes and I end up with achey feet. Lunas are different. My toes love the freedom and I love the simplicity.
I am a 52-year-old woman and transitioned to minimal/barefoot/zero drop shoes over the last five years (and have since, kissed PF and my heel spur goodbye). I am lucky enough to live on an island where most days I can do 6M or so totally barefoot on sand at the beach. I noticed that when I went back to shoes for asphalt, concrete and light trail, it just was no longer as fun running in shoes. So I thought I would give sandals a try. Something I never considered, the fit is awesome as my R foot is a half size smaller than my L and clearly, with shoes, I always have to fit the bigger foot. Sandals allow me the flexibility to adjust L and R as needed. But mostly, I got the fun back on road runs. I was hesitant to get the Mono Gordo Winged (in the cool Silver Monkey color) for fear it would be too clunky, but it is just perfect. I'm getting a hot spot a bit on the underside of my R big toe, but I think it is my form that needs to adjust a little. Overall, incredible experience and I cannot wait to increase mileage. Right now I'm sticking at about 4-5 miles, until I figure out why my R toe is getting that blister. The "open air" experience is second to none, especially since I live in the South and it's hot here most months of the year. These sandals area also awesome for cycling and walking. So glad I took the chance.
I’m fairly new to Luna’s although very familiar with the backstory! Decided to try a pair and love them!! Have run for years in regular trainers so a little adjustment needed on my part but worth it. Great customer service from the Luna guys, rock on!!
