As many of you know, LUNA had been struggling to keep up with the growth of our little sandal company. Our growth has been part of the overall phenomena of zero drop footwear, footwear that pays homage to the human bare foot, footwear that often leads to healthier, happier feet. We are proud of our contribution.
Up until the end of 2020, all LUNAs were made in our own little factory in Seattle, Washington. In 2021 we moved our USA factory to Wenatchee, Washington in the Eastern Cascades and also started working together with our Japanese LUNA distributor to find a licensed manufacturer to help us expand our market worldwide.
At first we did not think anyone would be able to reduplicate the look and feel of our hand-crafted sandals that require a lot of attention to detail; however, we were stunned to see that our Japanese friends had reached and exceeded all our quality expectations using the exact same materials sourced by us and assembled in Vietnam by a 3rd generation Japanese family owned footwear manufacturing company named Okahata. We found the partner we need to continue reaching an ever growing demand for high quality outdoor sandals.
We reached an agreement with the Okahata company after we grew familiar with their team and methods. During COVID we were able to make use of regular video conferences to keep the torch moving forward. We quickly came to appreciate the professionalism and high quality management skills found in the veteran team throughout Asia. Our own independent research has confirmed high quality work and safety practices equate to higher quality footwear. We have both.
Without our Japanese friends, LUNA Sandals would not be able to meet the demand we have created all over the world. However, with their help, we are now in a much better position than ever to continue to expand the LUNAverse keeping all of us healthy and happy everyday!
One thing is for sure, if you are a fan of LUNA Sandals and have come to love our story and the comfort and style of our sandals, the future is brighter than ever. We have a lot to be thankful for. Thank you for your support!
That being said, our new sandal factory in Wenatchee (we converted an apple storage building from the 1940s into a modern sandal factory) is able to make all our models for fans who want USA Made.
