This is my second pair of Luna sandals, in the same style. First pair is six years old and I just love them - so incredibly comfortable and hardy. After years of frequent use on trails and city pavement, the tread has really worn down and the pad on one strap is starting to rip - exactly where I pulled on it every time I put it on. Very happy with the performance, and still using the original pair while I break in the new pair. I like the design changes to the straps that bring the strap connections to the sandal up out of contact with the ground. The tread grip is fantastic. It all feels a bit stiff in comparison to my completely worn in first pair, but is still highly comfortable and feels a lot sturdier. It will be a slow and steady phase out of the first pair. Thank you for making such good footwear! My only difficulty was in figuring out sizing - either it rubbed off my first pair or was never there, but I had to go by the measurement guides online and somehow it was completely in accurate. I traced my foot on paper and measured the result but that corresponded to a size and a half up from my actual size. Not sure what happened there, but the exchange process was easy and fast and it worked out when I just ordered what I usually wear. Thank you, Luna, for the fast turn around! As well as the ability to wear for a month and return if needed.
I followed the sizing instructions and my sandals fit perfectly when they arrived. I pretty much wear them everywhere except to work and they’re easily my favorite shoe. After about a month I started having some trouble with one of the sandals. There is a small seam on the part of the strap with the Luna moon logo, where it transitions to the webbing between your toes. Anytime the straps got wet the seam area would swell and raise up a tiny bit. That raised bit of material started to slowly rub the skin off the top of my foot. This happened very gradually over about three or four days and it took me a little while to realize the resulting sore was caused by the sandal. Once I figured it out I called the company. They arranged to have them shipped back and then replaced the whole strap on the problem sandal. I got them back very fast and I haven’t had any problems since. These are hands down the best all around sandals I’ve ever worn. They only complaint I have is the footbed material is prone to stinking. I toss them in the shower and have to scrub the beejeezus out of them to keep them people friendly. The only feature Chaco has Luna beat on is the footbed material and how easy it is to clean. Chaco’s aren’t especially porous, cleaned up easier and remained odor free for longer. BUT I’d never wear Chacos again. I’ll just keep scrubbing the beejeezus out of my Osos and love them more than I ever loved a pair of Chacos.
I own 5 pairs on Luna’s. The Oso’s have outstanding grip for wet trails and rocks. You must break them in first before running. I would advise to start out with walks then into short runs. For me the Monos and Leadville Trails are now my choices when running. I wear the Mono Gordos most of the time as a everyday casual sandal. The Oso’s are built to last and take on any trail but could be an everyday sandal as well.
