I’m not sure how much the wings are as an improvement. They seem to pinch the feet and over time lead to a lot of chafing. Going to take these out of rotation for trail running unfortunately
I am a big fan of Luna Sandals and live in my Leadville Pacers all summer. When my dog ate the buckle off my last pair, I ordered Winged Monos because I love the blue color. The fit is different though. The wings rub the bone on the arch side of my foot. No matter how I adjust the strap...it just hits too high. I had to go back to non-winged Leadvilles.
I’ve had a great experience so far for close to 100 miles hiking (with a bit of running) on local trails. They are definitely former than my Mono 2.0s, but I’ve had a much more stable experience with the Osos than when I was slipping in the Monos.
I adore Luna sandals and own many. I wear them the entire summer and find them superior above all other sandals I’ve tested out. They literally set me on the path for better foot health. That said, while I can get behind the desire to evolve the design and make it easier for people to wear and adjust, the outcome doesn’t work for me this time. The rubbery material used on the wings rubs the insides of my feet and produced blisters by the end of the day. This has never happened with a pair of Luna’s. Please maintain the nonwinged sandals along with the winged ones, the older design is better for some of us. Beyond that, I like the new strap colors and still live in my non winged Luna’s through the summer and spring. I will give the winged ones another chance down the road when these blisters heal, but right now they are a failed experiment for me. Perhaps using a soft material like a nylon or neoprene in the future would avoid the rubbing from the wings. I still support the company but sadly cannot back this particular iteration of the design.
Hello Orlando, Thanks for your thoughtful review and feedback. Like any footwear change, sometimes our feet can be sensitive and take a little more time to adjust - since this is new for your feet to be in contact with the wings it is a good idea to ease in. Along with easing in, we’d recommend that you double check your laces are adjusted nice and snug (too loose could result in extra rubbing). We do offer a 30 day window where the sandals can be returned or exchanged no questions asked. Also we still offer some wingless models like our Origen 2.0 or the Leadville Pacer. Best, Marc LUNA Sandals
I want to love this new, simpler design but I'm not quite there yet. My first hike out was a multi-mile affair hiking into Juniper Canyon in Red Rocks and I got a crazy blister on my left foot where the wing touches it. I've since done a fair amount of adjusting of the laces and things seem to be somewhat better, but it feels like the wing still rubs and I've shied away from relying on the new sandals for long hikes. They also feel a little less secure without the tech strap. I'm hoping they'll work a bit better for me after breaking them in and tweaking the straps a bit more.
