This is my second pair, with an impressive three and a half years of hard wear on the first pair. Wore right through the sole (and the laces held up the whole time)! I wear Lunas cycling and walking; in the rain, on the trail, in the city. I travel with just Lunas and can wear them out to lunch or on a three-day hike. I like a minimal amount of shoe and Lunas are my favourite. I trust them to get me where I want to go and home safe, all in comfort and with good posture. Thanks team :).
Love that Luna provides an EVA version that absorbs the shock when running on concrete. Super grippy on roads. I would use the harder compound Oso’s for traction/ protection off-road. These are a great way to transition to more minimalist shoes without the pain that could put you off learning a new running style. I’m still mastering the adjustments. Almost there, just need to tweak them to stop my big toe from drifting towards the edge.
I like the new raised strap things on the sides. They eliminate for me the need for any kind of tech strap. The outside ones do rub a little bit if worn without socks. Some kind of neoprene covering over that might help. The colored webbing is nice, I really like the yellow and gray, and the webbing is both stiff and smooth. The webbing stands up on its own, which also helps keep the sandals on even when loosely strapped. The thick soles are good for hiking. I have used various Monos over time and have found that even though the "lugs" on the bottom wear through pretty quickly, the foam itself grips well on slippery trails. The trails I hike tend to have a layer of ball-bearing-like gravel that is easy to slip on, but the sole of the sandals grabs on to the gravel and then the gravel sort of grips the ground. Sounds weird but it is really effective and I will slip and slide less than friends wearing traditional boots. For this reason they are my strap-on hiking "boots".
