Spartathalon is the world's most international ultrarunning competition, tracing the historical route of Pheidippides on his mission to recruit Spartans in a war with Persia nearly 2500 years ago. The run was so epic, spanning 246 km (153 miles) between Athens and Sparta and back that the story became a legend that has been retold for over a millennium. In 1983, 3 runners set out to prove the plausibility of the myth and thus the modern day Spartathalon was born.
Join LUNA Sandals ambassador Andrew Snope on his journey to retrace Pheidippides steps through Greece and continue in the tradition of hemerdromes, ancient messengers revered for their abilities to run all day and night without stopping, while competing in LUNA sandals... a modern improvement on an ancient classic.
Andrew Snope has been pushing the boundaries of what is possible for the past 5 years, consistently improving on the record of the most miles run barefoot in one day (144.5 miles), competing in some of the toughest races in the world, and consistently proving that sometimes the best shoe for the job is not a shoe. A Lunatic at heart, he is at home in the wilderness and finds peace in the many epic adventures of life.
Follow the adventure on instagram (@snoperunner) and help support the quest with your purchase of a unique, one of a kind, amulet from artist and ultrarunner Tracy Thomas. Furthermore, each purchase will include a special gift from Luna Sandals and Andrew personally to aid you on your own running adventures.
Your input is very much appreciated. Share it with your friends so they can enjoy it too!
