My experience using my new Oso Winged Edition Luna Sandals has been great! I really love them and have been wearing them everywhere, from mountains to rivers to the streets. Thank you so much! :)
I have a pair of Retro Monos (from before they were retro) with hundreds of miles on them; those sandals rock! And the Oso Winged Edition is no different, even if I don’t have as many miles on them. It’s another great sandal. The wings are a nice feature; they keep things locked in place. For more technical trail/mountain runs, I augment the Osos with my old tech straps, which gives me a very, very secure fit. After about 80-100 miles in the Osos, I blistered near one of the wings. I’ve been running in (minimalist) shoes while the blister heals, which has been a good reminder about why I like Lunas; free feet are happy feet. Even if I get an occasional blister when breaking in a new pair of Lunas, running free is the way to do it. I may supplement my Osos with a pair of Origen 2.0s for road running. It feels a bit wasteful to burn through the Osos Vibram tread on paved trails.
My third pair of Luna sandals - I use them for summer trail running and just about everything else. Thought I’d try a the factory seconds in the clearance sale. In a strange British way I was slightly disappointed as I could find absolutely nothing wrong with them - they are as good as a “perfect” pair. Really nice to see a handwritten message on the invoice too. Love my Luna’s!
For over a decade I have been wearing Luna Sandals and followed each improvement Ted has made to Luna's along the way. I have also made my own Huaraches over the year which was also fun. When Ted came up with the new adjustable strapping system it was an improvement I could not match with my cobbler. The rugged Oso is the best sandal for the Rocky Arizona desert trails. The grippy, tuff tread pattern gives me ultimate confidence rain or shine on any surface. Even hiking on snow and ice in the Grand Canyon the Oso proved to be superior footwear over what my companions wore. The new Winged Oso holds the foot more securely and when worn with socks rival any running footwear I have seen. I still enjoy my Mono and Origens for other occasions. I even still own and wear the first pair of Luna "Nubbies" Ted made for me back in 2008. But when I hot the Arizona trails the Oso is my #1. I now wear them carrying our 1 year old son in a pack on my back and hope to soon be able to fit our 4 year old in Luna's soon.
